Personal Glimpse
Mr. GAPHOR M. PANIMBANG, fondly called Sir Gaphs is currently the executive director and founder of Lanao Young Educators’ Civic Alliance for Progress Inc. (LYECAP). LYECAP was organized and registered on the year 2009 as a result of his expressed conviction to continue and further strengthen his mission to work for the common good that would strengthen sustainable Bangsamoro people’s quality of life. At present, LYCEAP is currently implementing the project entitled “Alternative Delivery Model” of BEAM-ARMM and DepED in the municipalities of Lumbaca Unayan, Lumbayanague, Lumbatan, Tamparan, Marogong, and Tubaran, Lanao del Sur which led to the successful establishment of 86 BRAC Learning Centers. This long-term project is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
Not only contented with only a college degree, he likewise grabbed the opportunity by availing himself of a Certificate in Government Management in 1998 at MSU – Graduate School as well as Magna Carta for Public School Teachers at Adiong Memorial Polytechnic State College in 2000. He was a licensed secondary teacher and a career eligible (1st and 2nd level). As he put a foot forward, he decided to pursue his master’s degree in Public Administration which he finished in 2005 at MSU Graduate School.
Gaphs hails fromBuayaan, Ditsaan-Ramain, Lanao del Sur, ARMM, Philippines. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration major in Management at the Mindanao State University, Marawi City Main Campus. He joined the Adiong Memorial Polytechnic State College, the lone state college in Lanao del Sur, in 2000 as a high school and college instructor, administrative assistant of the College’s president, then an officer in-charge of the College’s research and extension development institute. He virtually inched his way to his post at the same time, a part-time deejay at RadyoNatin FM – Marawi.
For three years of dedicated service to the college, he realized that in his position he was not able to show his full potential. He was looking for a challenge in a company that will recognize his abilities.
Year 2003 when MOVIMONDO, an Italian international non-government organization hired Geepee as Senior Micro-enterprise Officer for the program “Support to Socio-economic Integration in Lanao del Sur (SEI-LDS). This program aimed at providing long-term financial assistance to Internally Displaced People (IDP’s) affected by the 2001 All-out war in some parts of Mindanao who took refuge in the municipality of Kapai, Piagapo, Marantao, and Marawi City through the introduction of micro-enterprise development and social services improvement. This project was funded by European Union.
On the year 2005, he was hired as project manager for the program “Developing Local Agricultural Productivity for Food and Economic Security” of the Local Governance Support Program (LGSPA) in ARMM. This is a joint undertaking of the government of Philippines (GoP) and Canada in their agenda of achieving equitable growth and poverty reduction through effective local governance.
Gaphs’s involvement in LAD projects include: coaching on actual drafting of Municipal Agricultural Profile (Marantao, Balindong, Tugaya, Bacolod-Kalawi and Madalem), continuing support to demo and LAD structures, formulating the LAD plans, and implementing the extension service delivery plan.
From 2005 to 2008, he was as program manager for the BEAM-HOME Access Program – a project of the Philippine government through the Department of Education (DepEd) with support from Australian Agency for International Aid (AusAid) This program involves the construction of community learning centers, establishment of early childhood education, functional literacy, learning materials development, livelihood enterprise development, and vocational training for Out-of School Youth (OSY’s). This is in support to DepEd’s program to provide opportunities for disadvantaged Muslim children in remote and isolated places to have access to basic education.
After his contract ended at RSEUFI, he became interested in call center industry because he considered it as a value-additive experience that will append to his current skill set and competencies. Futuristically, he saw it with an opportunity to have his career as well as his professional growth be fully enhanced. From May –November, he held the position of a Customer Service Representative at Teleperformance Inc. located at 14th Floor, Octagon Building, San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
Teleperfcormance is one of the fastest growing call center industries in the country backed by multi-American telecommunication giants with an impressive list of international clients. His most recent experience has been handling incoming calls and providing customer service in behalf of the company’s clients.
On the year 2010, he was hired at Mindanao Dynamic Culture of Peace Inc. (MIDCOP) as project consultant and successfully managed the effective implementation of the project entitled “ Tri-People Initiative and Interfaith Towards Understanding Peace (TRIAD-UP)” in Marawi City, MSU Main Campus, Kapatagan, Balabagan and Malabang, Lanao del Sur. The project aimed at strengthening the awareness and the capability of the youth towards peace development through inter-faith related peace activities. The beneficiaries were tri-people students from the different secondary schools and Colleges of the aforementioned five areas of Lanao Del Sur. This project was funded by Australian Embassy under Strengthening Grassroots Interfaith Dialogue and Understanding (SGIDU) program.
Also, under his technical guidance, the project entitled “Empowering Youth through Enhancing Organizational Skills and Leadership Potential towards Effective Peace Agent in the Community” implemented by Mindanao Dynamic Culture of Peace (MIDCOP) was successfully carried out. The primary goal of the project was to help tri-people (Muslim, Christian, and Lumad) particularly young people develop their confidence and leadership potentials through a series of capability building and ultimately become active peace makers in their respective communities. The beneficiaries were tri-people students from the different secondary schools and Colleges of five areas of Lanao Del Sur as follows: Malabang, Kapatagan, Balabagan, Marawi City and MSU Main Campus. This project was funded by the Australian Embassy under Strengthening Grassroots Interfaith Dialogue and Understanding (SGIDU) program of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT)
On the year 2011-2013, he was hired as the Chief of Staff of Mayor ActarMarmar of the municipality of Ditsaan-Ramain.
Recently, he was tapped as one of the resource persons for the project “Interfaith School of Peace (ISOP)” implemented by the United Youth for Peace and Development Inc. (UNYPAD) funded by Australian Government through Regional Communities Outreach Program of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The purpose of this project is to bring together approximately 30 young tri-people from different religious traditions for a three month living/learning experience. These young participants come from conflict-affected areas of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte. Through lectures, exposure visits, and interaction with one another, the participants were able to learn about other faiths, and the importance of living with one another in peace.
Also, tapped as resource speaker and facilitator for the project on the consultation on the Bangsamoro Basic Law entitled: “Encouraging Youth Participation in Governance” in several municipalities of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte. This project is being implemented by the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) in partnership with Conciliation Resources (CR) and funded by European Union (EU).
The best years of Gaphs were spent in humanitarian servitude. The wholehearted offering of his self to the humanitarian task did not give him attractive salary, fringe benefits, promotions, or any promise reward after retirement. He does not claim he has become religious. He does not want his work to be known, but he knows he wants to work in a place “where he could be of service to others and to God”.
During the last ten years, Gaphs has attended and conducted various seminars, conventions/conferences local, national and international level. In some of these activities, he served as resource speaker. He has also written several research paper and publications.
